I want to know if I am doing the driftwood thing right

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont think you want to put green wood in your tank for fear of the sap and resin content

old dry hard to the fingernail wood is what you want, free of any bark

That makes sense. Would it matter that they are roots pulled from under the water? I will get pics later today.

nope as long as the river is clean and the wood is dead ;)
actually pretty much all old dead wood works in your aquarium after a simple soaking boiling and scrubbing ;)

The roots were cut from a live tree. If I hear everyone, even though they were underwater, the fact that they were cut from a living tree means that I should NOT put that in my tank. Right?

The first question is what kind of wood is it? Some wood could leach things into the tank that could be harmfull to your fish in an enclosed environment. Do some more resarch on the wood. if it's not dead and dried out ie. living wood I would not trust it.

Absolutely correct.

Thank you everyone. I am going back today to get some dead driftwood and do it right. I have a lot of $$$ invested in those fish and would hate to lose them.
