I want to put an empty beer bottle or 2 in my aquarium...

just an idea.... if you're going with the beer bottle idea, you could get either a clear or lighter colored bottle and fill it with sea glass.

kinda what i was thinking, excellent idea... just lookin to make a kick ass tank setting.

Have you checked out Rogue Brewing CO.? All their labels are painted onto the bottles and they have some cool labels, and they have tasty beer! Btw they are out of Oregon.

i'm thinkin i'll go out and buy a 6 pack of bud light lime tomorrow and fill it with some light green sea glass actually...

ohhhh yea! i haven't heard of them, but i have actually had some nice/cool looking beer with painted on labels...

yea, personal preference i guess, but i think i can make it look pretty decent. but, the only problem is... making sure there is nothing left in the bottles that can be harmful for the fish!

anyways, just figured i'd ask if anyone has done this, or what i should do to properly clean a bottle out?

thanks

There is a clear, pour on epoxy finish that many reef tank owners use to encapsulate their sand bed called "EnviroTex Lite". They use it by mixing dry sand with it, pouring it like concrete on the bottom of their tank. When it sets, it gives you a sand bed with the advantages of bare bottom. You could coat the bottles with this stuff, label and all. When it cures, it would be totally covered, and the label would never come off.

woW! I want a sand bed that never moves ive never heard of that. Would it work for freshwater ??

Personally... I wouldn't worry about leaving a label on the bottle... The glue will be 'cured' and is unlikely to leech anything bad into the water and if it does it would do so at an extremely slow rate through the plastic (non porous) label...

That being said I've never tried it so I can't say for sure it's "safe"...

I did buy a bottle of Vodka that faded from clear to purple and had a picture of Jimi Hendrix on it to keep in tanks... the label was etched into the bottle though...

Do you think it's odd that everyone assumed the glue was bad but the painted on labels would be okay? In my experience most cured glues are not harmful in aquariums but few paints are safe for use…
