Personally... I wouldn't worry about leaving a label on the bottle... The glue will be 'cured' and is unlikely to leech anything bad into the water and if it does it would do so at an extremely slow rate through the plastic (non porous) label...

That being said I've never tried it so I can't say for sure it's "safe"...

I did buy a bottle of Vodka that faded from clear to purple and had a picture of Jimi Hendrix on it to keep in tanks... the label was etched into the bottle though...

Do you think it's odd that everyone assumed the glue was bad but the painted on labels would be okay? In my experience most cured glues are not harmful in aquariums but few paints are safe for use…

the glue isn't as bad as the label. the label will eventually fall off and could be ingested by fish. that would be bad

I'm sure the reality of this will be different from brand to brand... but I'm pretty darn sure that Bud Light bottles could last for a very long time in an aquarium before the label fell off.

Nope-
Never been done before...

Most fish won't ingest anything they don't think tastes good anyway. Hell, half my fish won't even eat pellets!

the point is, if you're going to care, why bother finding out the hard way? the guy is asking about it, so i'm telling him what i would do. and how many times have you seen fish at least put detritus in their mouth, then spit it out? it happens, and its just good practice.

you could always save some cardboard coasters from a pub or restaurant. they have tons i'm sure, and you could double sided tape them to the outside of the back wall. that would tie in the theme too

I had a heineken bottle in my 55 with the sticker still on it that i cut the neck off so my convicts could breed in,had it in the tank for about a year without it even starting to peel and they bred in it so i know it didn't do any harm to my fish when i did it.
