a ball python will be fine in a 20-29 gallon tank... they never move and hide all day... they only move at night to hunt and they dont move much either... dont listen to the ones saying its not a beginner snake... its one of the best you can get for a beginner..........i so go for the ball:thumbsup:

Wow, sweet info guys, thanks for all your help, but a series of events has changed my snake ways...

My mom was still unrelenting to me getting a snakes. I talked to my friend about it, and told him how I loved anythign with scales, snakes and fish. He said, oh maybe you want my lizard, it has scales. Turns out he has got about a 1' long bearded dragon, about 3 years old, that his brother got sick of. He was serious about giving it away, and he said that he would give me all of his tank, heating rock, food, and everything else hes got for it for FREE!!! I asked my mom, and said if I could get this instead of the snake, she said the first worst was snakes, then came lizards, but she gave it the sort of- ok but I dont want it anywhere near me response.

So all in all, thank you for all of your information, and if I ever do end up getting a snake I will refer to all your help, but it ends up that this wednesday, hopefully, I will be getting my friends bearded dragon. :D

i've never had a problem getting a corn to feed but have freinds with balls always encountering feeding problems with balls this is simple enough to correct with some snake keeping experiance but not for a first timer corns are the best beginer snake IMNSHO .

Never once, that's something, I guess you are doing something right! Eventhough balls can be poor feeders at times, especially during the winter months, I still think they are good beginner snakes too. The best way I have found to keep them eating is simply keeping their enviroment as stable as possible. And of course making them feel secure in their homes. With that said I still have had snakes refuse food for a few months. :(

thx for the info give me some needed info i wasnt sure how big of tubs i would need for him.

just noticed your're from T.O. cool , do you use heat tape for your containers and where do you get it all my suppliers only carry pads i need something i can wire up a single plug for a dozen tubs.

I don't have as many snakes as I once had and I seem to have a lot of heat pads so I just use them, though heat tape is cheaper for multipe snakes. I get all my supplies from Port Credit Pet Center just east of Hurontario and Lakeshore. I am sure you can get the tape and the thermostats at the reptile expo on the 23.

My personal suggestion would be a carpet python preferably the Irian Jaya or West Papuan, I started with a ball and one of these i soon got rid of the Ball Python, IJ's are really docile, really hardy and much more active than BP's
cheers
