What the heck is wrong with you? Cupcake throwing is quite a strange fetish.

Can you give an estimate? I had my big angel rip his dorsal fin on something once, straight down the middle. I put in some melafix and it had healed overnight.

:FIREdevilI certainly won't tell.
heheh

Ok, all joking aside (yeah right), here's an update on Stumpy. He's been in my care for a little over 30 hours, and I've already seen some improvement. The prescription is melafix, pimafix, daily 50% water change. The most noticeable healing has gone on in his pectoral fins. They used to be badly frayed, but now, the individual sections have fused back together, and only the outer edges are jagged. Also the back of his dorsal fin, the part that angels use as a rudder, has grown bigger, and he's getting around pretty well.

I still can't tell you if he's eating any. I've been feeding very sparingly and offered him bloodworms twice, but I can't say if he took anything. No sunken belly, though. Understandably, he's very shy still, and tries to hide from me, but I think that will change eventually. Sometimes I sneak a look at him and he's starting to show black stripes and very red eyes, but most of the time he's pale. He is swimming around the tank actively, and not hovering in a corner anymore. Lookin' good, I say.

Aw, thanks. You :headbang2too. In fact, we all :headbang2. I love you MFK. Group hug! lulz

LOL Group HUg misleading thread name id say. That angel fish looks like it came out of a frying pan or even a chiminey it looks all charred D: . I dont know what that melafix stuff is but i dont really like the use of chemicals in my tank other than chlorine removers. Good luck on curing him up. I once rescued an americal eel he was gonna be eaten at a chinease fish market :(

Eel is delicious. Whenever we get sushi, I get the unagi roll.:drool:But, it's sweet how you saved him. +1 for us bleeding hearts.

The active ingredient in Melafix is all natural, it's just tea tree oil, which has astringent/antibacterial properties. It's good for your skin, too. Not melafix, but tea tree oil lol. But, I guess melafix could be good for your skin... maybe we should find out. As far as the thread title, doesn't everyone always say "Never buy sick or injured fish thinking you can cure them?"

Great deed indeed. I hope he comes back with am award winning showing just because you took the time.:D

Yea the thread title is decieving! LOL.

Just what exactly are all you naughty boys thinking this thread is going to be about? lol

Ok, I'm off to a job interview! Wish me luck. I'll update you on stumpy again soon, maybe with pics if I can find my camera. My room's a mess, and I never clean it. See, I am a bad girl.

I don't think I could give you a good estimate, lol.
Even between the same species it seems like they heal at different rates.

All natural doesn't mean much. I've had melafix seemingly kill a couple of clown loaches and put some other fish under extreme stress, that's why I don't use it anymore. I have never had this happen with erythromycin or trisulfa which are standard antibacterials. I also had melafix destroy my biological filtration on a tank, which is a well known effect of trisulfa, but claimed not to be an issue with melafix.
Maybe melafix has some uses, but I don't trust the quality control on it anymore. You get specific dosing with other antibacterials, how do we know if you get that with melafix? It even says to shake well on the bottle, so how do you know you're getting an equal amount in each dose?

For just plain old healing injuries water changes seem to work well for me. Fish don't need chemicals with torn fins, their own bodies will take care of it and as long as your water quality is good it's unlikely to get infected.
