thanks, and no the gourami shouldn't be safe in there haha.
It was a bully in one of my other tanks so he took a vacation in the piranha tank...and has been living there for 2 months, the piranhas shoal with it and the gourami sometimes eats with the p's...no nipped fins nothing!! haha
Three days without eating and bye bye gourami.:D Piranhas are crazy eaters and will bite anything that moves.

I disagree with that...there has been a time when I didn't feed them for 3-4 days and everything was fine...if piranhas were such ruthless killers i'm sure the gourami, tetras, and raphael cat in there would show some signs of the p's going after them (nipped fins and what not).

One prime example..I did not feed them for I think about 3 or 4 days to see if I could get them to frenzy..anyway I had grabbed a bunch of feeders and moved the gourami and tetras from the p tank and put them all into a new tank I was cycling (I was getting impatient with waiting for a cycling tank) haha so then after these 6 days had gone by I threw a feeder into the tank, gone in a second (just a note I do not feed them feeders on a regular basis) so I put a second in and the same thing...so I say hrmm...put the gourami in nothing, put the tetras in nothing....put another feeder in....gourami chases it for a bit, the the p's eat the feeder. The p's always ignore them.

That hook is huge! I would be afraid of one of my fish getting caught on it. Might you try threading the shrimp through a piece of thread or string and then lowering it into the tank.

haha I don't feed them like this every time I feed! lol
I just did this for the pic...normally I don't suspend the food at all, or if I do its with cotton string :grinno:

truly a very cool thread

You're such a pretty face to have brutal looking piranhas. It's kind of hard to picture a bubbly girl with nasty predator fish.:D I can agreed with you on this somewhat. I had the same experience with a 20" ornate vs 8" P. They lived harmoniously for 3 months until the P bit him in half one day.:grinno: Then again that P was a finger chaser and grew up solo.

haha well i'm glad my bubbly...ness? comes through onto the computer haha.
I do believe that you can never fully predict how they will act, but keeping them well fed helps :P...since the black tetras have been doing so well I think I may get a few more...we shall see!
