Seriously, I would. Theses things are so fricken cool. I got to go behind the scenes of the Lubee Bat Conservancy (which used to be owned by Baccardi- save the bats and drink up guys!) because the reptile store I work at supports them during the one day a year they are open to the public. My boss and I worked a table at the Bat Festival and in return they let us hang out with these guys and we got to go inside the cages and see the medical center and everything. I can say without a doubt this is a first class operation and have some of the rarest bats in the world.

On a side note, I am heading up to Jax today with my other job as a nussiance wildlife removal company and we are removing the roof off of a house with 1000+ Brazilian free tailed bats. There are so many that they have lifted a portion of the roof from over crowding and are getting pinched between the roof and the walls. We are estimating nearly a hundred pounds of bat guano that need to be removed as well. But the pay is good!

If I had a flying fox and were in the same place in the States that you are in I would wellcome such trade. Keep the hots tho, except the beaded he he

One question: are those bats managed in a same way that most endangered species are in zoos, that is, they are forbitten to enter private ownership? If they are cb in the states, they would make a great adition to the exotics hobby, people already keep a few species of flying fox. My main concern however is zoonosis, with bats you really have to watch out.

Hi,if you like them so much why not?

They are all illegal in the state. Because of the white nose fungus you are no longer allowed to keep any species of bat unless you have permits that are pretty impossible to get. Rabies would be a concern but not any more than with something like a coatamundi (or an outside cat/dog for that matter).

What about something like ebola virus? I herd its life cycle has something to do with african fruit bats.
