Ice fishing season for me.

Beautiful hauls. Those look like some really delicious meals, straight up wish I was there.

Carp is considered a delicacy in some geographic locales. They are very boney and hard to filet, so to properly prepare them requires expertise. When they get caught in healthy landlocked lakes there is nothing to worry about in terms of the quality of the meat. I would never in my life eat one caught in North America, I don't think anyway.

Or anywhere even in Europe. Even in healthy lakes, they're still tastes terrible from sucking stuff off the bottom all day.

Its funny that European settlers stopped eating the carps they brought with when they arrived in the America. They discovered the North America fishes are delicious.

Thought so! I thought KOI and carp are from the same family ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koi

Carp in Japanese means KOI and according to that link the common carp is what makes a KOI. So I don't see why they couldn't breed
Grass carp is not same species of the common carp/koi and they're in completely different genus.

That's a nice haul of fish there OP. Were you taking them all off lures, or some off bait as well?

Burbot taste a lot better than sunfish or trout and they're bottom dwellers, although they are very predatory fish.
I have definitely heard a lot of good things about Eelpout.....I saw a show called "Off The Hook" with Pro-wrestler Eric Young and he went to Minnesota for a party on the ice at the Eelpout Festival. Was a great show, I wonder what happened to it and why he got a new show title after 2 seasons.

I'd love to go to the Eelpout festival someday, it's like a winter roughfishing Mecca! I'm going to try to figure out how to catch these guys in the summer this year, which is almost unheard of. I have a feeling with enough time using a heavy meat-tipped jig over a wreck in 100' will yield one eventually, seeing as they're all over them in the July and August.
