no worries the DNR was not called, I understand fully that common names can mean all different species. Just was looking for clarification but looks like there is none.

Before anyone calls the DNR you need to make sure it is what you are thinking. the name Gray Minnow could be a common name for fat heads or something that is sold all over. You go call the DNR and waste their time and money and you are being the bad guy.

yea im sure there fathead minnows but common named gray minnows..

um im not really sure lately me and my buddies been ripping the bodies off the minnows and jigging perch.. but we been using blue minnows to use under tip ups and im going this saturday to probably get perch again the walleye have been stumping us :irked:

the best tip-up bait all around is one of 4 fish.

in this order (in MN)

#1 the biggest shinner you can find, if i can get them 7-8" it is best. not easy to find them that size these days.
#2 large suckers with the center of the tail broke out so they can't swim well. that has been proven in wisconsin and minnesota for me.
#3 smelt
#4 silver creek chubs

then if we got them ciscos/whitefish/mooneyes, but those are for the monsters.

i use a mix of large baits and small baits. one reason is action, the other is that i can't count how many monster pike and muskies we have got off small suckers(winter and summer), 1/4oz rattle traps and #5 mepps(summer of course) as of the first post i did i see i must explain more 'in depth'.

Well it works good, especially when you fishing for walleyes or stocked trouts.
