ya u can use a normal rod.
ive also use a beer can w/ just enough line tied to the tab. Once fish one the can bounced around in the hole lettin you know you've got a bite. Hekk you could use a stick for ice fishing.

Can't wait to get out on the ice. I am waiting a couple more weeks. A friend of a friends uncle died on new years eve, thin ice and went by himself. Divers found him on Jan 1.

I agree ice fishing requires little advanced equipment. Mainly you need a hook and line and a way to bring the fish up!

im in mass and we only had one week of ice and it was 5 inchs thick then it warmed up..got a couple of small bass..
