Ich Help Urgent!!!! Please help!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just went through this...check out my thread about ICH under my profile. My clown loaches were so badly infected that I panicked and instantly medicated with Kordon's Rid Ich. I am on day 10 right now and my tanks livestock are ICH-FREE!!!! If you feel you cant use the high heat and salt method, I suggest using the Rid Ich. I was a little suspicious as to whether it would work or not. It absolutely did work! PM me if you have questions. By the way, I did lose 1 loach but the rest healed up really well.

PS...There will be alot of people telling you to not medicate. Its your choice and it's your situation that you are currently in. I would much rather of used NO meds. However, I felt the Ich was so far advanced I was afraid I couldnt use high heat.

Keep temp high, do daily 25% (more is better) waterchanges, and add a half does of aquarium salt. I believe id sharks are scaleless (correct me if I'm wrong). So about 1 tbsp per every 10 gallon.

thanks!! very helpful but is 86 degrees straight?

The temp increase to 86-87 and salt will kill them because that accelerates their life cycle and interrupts reproduction. Salt should not be more than 1/10th sea water concentration.

Also, make sure to vacuum the tank bottom to get rid of the remaining cysts which could cause a 2nd outbreak...

1) make sure it IS ich and not the more stubborn and deadly velvet
2) if heat does not help, add medicine
3) copper safe is good long term(they last a month in the tank) medicine as long as you don't have inverts and plants.
4) dye based cures are quick but could hurt scale less fish.

Just to add to point 4, it may also dye your silicone a different color...
