Hello, I recently got put in a few 1-2" clown loaches that i quarantined for about a week before I put them with my florida gar, Silver aro, Jardini, bichir, snail, and two 3 inch loaches. So I know salt helps ich, would it help the clown loaches? How much salt should I add and raise the temperature to what? Would salt affect my other fish badly?

First remove the activated carbon. Temperature determines how fast it will spread. the warmer the water the faster it will spread. 100G i would put in 3/4 - 1 LB. If you cannot get by pound i would put at least a teaspoon for every 2 gallons every 12 - 24 hours.

I haven't failed with my regimen - bump temp to 86-88 degrees, keep a 2tsp/Gal concentration of salt, and do 25% water changes daily and replace the salt accordingly (25% water change = add 50tsp salt) You have a 100G tank so this may be a pain. Do you have a smaller quarantine tank to treat them?

Otherwise you can reduce the water changes to every other day or every 2 days. I did ok doing water changes that way and didn't lose a single loach.

Add extra aeration as the higher temperature will reduce dissolved O2 in the water. Add the salt slowly.

BTW, please don't spam the board every few mins...people read this board but not at all times of the day.

Alright thanks, sorry bout all the spams just don't want to loose them. They are currently in a 180 gallon tank so would that mean 360tsp a gallon? Would all the other fish be alright with that dosage? I do have a smaller tank, a 5.5 gallon but currently has a few fry in it.

If you've already started a course of treatment, stick to it, but just in case you're considering medication instead of salt, I've had very good luck so far with a malachite green + formalin combination med.

I had 5 < 2" clown loaches, and 5 tiger barbs in my quarantine tank when I got a really got deal on a 4" clown. I'm pretty sure the big guy brought the ich into the tank because the little loaches were in the QT for a week or two with no signs of infection.

Anyway, I already had the temperature up at 28 degrees celcius and had extra aeration going when I noticed the whitespot starting to take hold. I did a 50% water change and very thorough vacuum of the bottom of the QT. Then I added the half-strength dose of medication (as per the instructions).

After 48 hours, I did another vacuum + 50% WC and added the 1/2 dose of meds again. The ich seemed to be receeding. 72 hours later, I did the same vacuum + WC + medicate treatment again, even though there was no visible signs of ich. After another 3 days, I did another 50% water change to try to get any remaining meds out of the tank.

I didn't lose any fish during treatment, nor have I lost any in the 3 weeks since. Everyone is looking fat and happy, and in one more week they'll be going in the big tank.

am i supose to dump the salt right in the tank? I put it in a container with water so it wouldnt go in all clumpy but the big salt chunks are still there? I'm new at this whole salt think and I put 90 teaspoons. it is not in the tank yet.
