Ich issue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, stir the stuff until it's dissolved completely.

the guy at my FPS suggested that i only dose them at 1tbs per 10 gallons to see how the fish tolerate it
and if all is well add the other half dose making it a total of 1tbs per 5 gallons
does that sound right??

That's up to you whether you want to follow his advice. I still think however the dosage is less than what is needed to ensure the ich is destroyed. The result of low dosages often is salt-resistant strains of ich. Your fish should be able to tolerate it. I have kept scaleless fish before and dosed with salt with no issues.

Definitely. Dose a teaspoon per gallon every 12 hours before you can reach that total dosage.

unfortunately ID sharks are known to be susceptible to Ich, and die from it, this is the reason why I do not have any ID sharks, after 3 attempts and a different type of Ich treatment every time they still died on me. my suggestion is massive water movement, lots of air is also good. I have noticed that they tried to swim in the bubbles as much as possible when they had the ich, I was also increasing the temperature to 90 degrees and they tolerated it... but nonetheless they spots increased on their bodies and every time they died.

sorry for the downer, hope they make it for you, keep us updated.

so i pumped up the heat to 83 degrees and added 2 teaspoons of salt per gallon
i just noticed that the sharks are gaining more white spots
is this to be expected??

Yes. Increasing the temp prompts the parasites to reproduce more. Stick to 80-84 degrees range and don't increase anymore to avoid further stress.

Did you keep the tank well aerated?

i turned on my powerhead and aimed it at the surface and added another airstone
so i have 2 airstones and the powerhead aimed at the top
is that enough?
