This morning I noticed some flashing of my fish and a bit of lethargy from my syndontis eupterus. I looked close and there appears to me tons of little yellowish spots all over the synodontis' body, no other signs on the fish but I did see one fla**** is not the classic pure white salt granule sized ich that every one knows, I have never seen this before. Also my heater picked an awesome time to fail on me, did a water change with warm water and bumped it to ~80 degrees, I took two 50W heaters I had for spares and put them in, not enough but I will pick up a new heater later today. Sorry for the bump, only been 30 minutes, but I really need some advice, going to my LFS to get a new heater soon, and I need to know if it is something other then ich that requires meds.

That does not look like ich. Ich creates larger and more isolated white dots, like those here:

That stuff on your Syno looks much more like Oodinium (velvet).

Adding salt is useless against oodinium. That stuff kills not as fast as ichty but is much more enduring. Use contraick or Oopur from Sera as medication, change 80% of water per day. Good luck man!

Syno cat died sometime last night, RIP, was a solid 7 inches, so quite big. Temp is at 85, added API ich cure pro at half dosage, knife fish seems more lively, hopefully he will make it. Rest of fish have shown no signs besides flashing, so they will probably make it. Luckily my favorite fish in the tank isn't a sensitive scaleless fish, its my polys, tough as nails.

All 3 tiger barbs dead... This velvet is some nasty stuff.. I think the temperature sped the lifecycle up and the fish with it the worst didnt make it, hopefully the worst is over.
