Ich or velvet

If it is epistylis this is how i treated it, others may treat it different also when i treated my fish weren't as far as long as yours.
but yes i would add 1 tble spoon of salt per 5 gallons then every other day i would do a 80% WC with a very through vacuum making sure to vacuum the sand or gravel what ever you got when the epistylis falls off that's why you vacuum and redose with the salt.
It will actually clear off the fish in about 2-3 weeks but i keep doing it for a month to make sure its gone out of the water column and not in your sand or gravel
Thanks!
As far as regular water changes go, let’s say without any sick fish, should I be adding salt or anything else to the tank other than conditioner? I realize this is a whole other debate and there are a lot of different opinions. As far as salt though, should I add after each regular wc? Not just when treating sick fish but every wc

Ok not talking to anyony one person , lots of folks read these ,,..Big fish are crazy maintenance, imo....one adult Oscar in a 75gallon, is two tidal 110's , nothng but course sponge inside .....and believe it or not , blasted out twice a day , morning and night.......getting the poop out this frequently .....dramatically improves water quality and.... "lowers" the need for large bio areas.....many many ways to go here.....after a awhile you become a expert.....as are many on mfk

Thanks!

No need to add salt to regular water changes

I feel like there's something going around the farms these stores are getting their fish from. I've been hearing of a lot of epistylis outbreaks recently. I was not spared from it myself. A third of my fish died in 10 days. A handful more have since died in treatment.

I think the majority of the recent outbreak was exasperated by people treating it like ich instead of a using a broad spectrum antibiotic such as Kanaplex. I’ve seen quite a few posts and videos on BoobTube recently about the misdiagnosis.

Copper at therapeutic level and keep the water around 80 degrees. W/C everyday and make sure copper is back at therapeutic level. Make sure to siphon near the bottom even if you don't see anything.

Use 1 tsp/5 ml per 4 U.S. gallons

One of the problems when treating both ich, and epistilis, are secondary bacterial infections.
Sure heat helps the protozoal phages life cycles move faster, but.../
the bacterial phages get more virulent and can kill faster, and more efficiently at highet temps, and heat doesn't kill ich.
Here in Panama there are ich phages rgat survive temps in the mid 90s.
Even when treating ich alone, I don't raise the temp, I prefer to allow the meds (in my case most of the time) I allow he salinity to do the job.
For both maladies, an at least 3 ppt salitiy is required, if a lower salitity is used the phages just laugh it off. (sea water is 35 ppt)
So...To reach a 3ppt salinity, 3 lbs of salt is needed, per 100 gallons
I don't use the volume methed (Tsps/Tbsps) either because grain size renders it unreliable.
By usingg weight, 3 ibs is 3lbs.
