Hello Guys and Gals I have been looking for a large and well active forum to join that shares the same interest as I do. Think I found it :P
Anyhow, I have a 40 gallon planted breeder tank. I have a Aqua Clear 70 filter with bio. 5 3-4" Giant Danios, 2 Hi-fin Plecos, and a 4" Red ear slider. I am fairly certain that my giant Danios are developing ich (its in a very early stage). None on the Plecos, and I don't even think it can affect the slider. I have read " http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=371335 " but I am uncertain if the rise in Temp/Salt will affect my Plecos, and most importantly my slider. I would like to keep him in the tank during the treatment.
Big thanks in advance,
Quint

How funny we both asked this question at practically the same time.

On another note....

You have two Plecos in a 40 Gallon?...

Yes, is there a something wrong with that?

I seen your thread too and was going to keep an eye on it because of how similar the two were lol.

Your plecos will still harbor ich regardless. Treat everyone with salt and separate the RES in a fishless environment. You must dissolve the salt thoroughly. Please read my sticky threads about ich in this section for further instructions on dosing salt. There is a specific dosage that must be used or you risk harming/killing the fish.

And yes, negative_tea has a point. Hifin plecos, if I am not mistaken that these are from Pterygoplichthys genus, will actually outgrow your tank. They reach 12-18 inches in length. If the plecos in question were smaller species, a 40g would not be a problem.

I'm aware of how large they get, I will have to get larger tanks (50g, 75g, 100g...)as my RES grows. so I figured that the plecos size will not be a problem as they both grow.
Now I know that the RES will not be affected by the ich, but wont taking him out of the infected tank, and putting him back in after the treatment just reintroduce the ich again?
