Ich Treatments...pennies = copper?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, DO NOT USE COPPER!!

It will own and ruin your system.

Saltwater Ich is brought on by some stress factor in the tank. if you eliminate the stress factor then the fish will cure itself. Please post your parameters and lets find out what is wrong.

Water is perfect no nitrate no nitrite no ammonia.

I do water changes about every other day due to the high load level of the tank

It is a 65 gallon tank with an emporer canister filter on it.

It has a 3.5" minniatus grouper
a 12" Marbled Cat shark
and a 3" Stars and Stripe puffer.

ok, there is your problem...

you have 3 fish that need a much bigger tank. Additionally, if you are using a cannaster i am willing to bet that your phosphate levels are off the charts.

I will say that all puffers are prone to Ich but in this case, the shark should be in a tank at least 3 times that size and the grouper is not far behind.

your fish are cramped and stressed.

twitter you are right they would be stressed even if they are of medium size. I would remove the fish to qt and start using a fresh water dip to treat the ick. Just make sure that your ph is the same as the s.w. and dip for about 1 min . It may take a couple of dips.

You must be spending a ton of $$$ on salt! Nothing but a huge tank upgrade will help, as the fish will continued to be stressed=lowered immmune system=disease=short lifespan.

I recommend 10 pennies per gallon, so for your tank that's 650 pennies. Or 26 quarters!

CHANGE IS NOT A MEDICATION

DO NOT use copper on any tank which has a shark in it.
i advise you to rehome your coral cat as soon as you can, the 65 gallon is going to kill it.
also, the puffer is a terrible tankmate for the shark. what are the dimensions of your tank?

Shark bites puffer=both dead.
