ICH!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im having the same problem right now too, its ich season. i have an african arowana and many other tankmates but the afro is my main concern since he is fragile. my temp is at 88, i just got it there 2 days ago. the ich has been in my tank for about a week and im adding salt and doing weekly 50% waterchange. im sure the ich is almost done just be patient and watch your temp.

I raised my temp to 90F for two weeks and all my clown loaches survived. I did 25% water change everyday and added four tablespoon of sea salt each water change. I had two powerheads blowing extra air into my tank. After two weeks, I lowered the temp to 86F and still did daily water change while still adding four tablespoon of seasalt for another week. Now the temp is at 82F and all of my clown loaches are back to normal.

I used nox ich one time when all my fish has ich and it worked awesome! One night and all the ichs were gone ;)

IF it is truely ich, a low salinity of 1ppt is all that's necessary (I aim for 2-3ppt to be safe). FYI 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water = 1ppt. Also, you will need to maintain the heat/salt treatment for a minimum of a month to ensure the life cycle is completely broken. You can only kill the parasite in the free swimming stage. It can take weeks to make sure all the parasites have been killed off. I always follow treatment for 6 full weeks.

Biggest issue with increased temp is you will have a reduction in the amount of oxygen the water can hold. So be sure to have extra aeration in the tank to keep the dissolved oxygen as close to saturation levels as possible to minimize stress.
