Since you don't say what size tank, it is hard for us to calculate, but...
An average 100-120 gal tank, will need "3.5" LBs of salt to get salinity high enough to make a dent on the ick.
And if you were wimpy with the salt before (using 1tsp per gal is like doing nothing),after adding the 3.5lbs will be like starting all over, and ick can take 3-5 weeks to eradicate, because each protozoa needs to complete its life cycle, and its progeny need to be exposed to and killed by the salt.
By adding too little salt at first, you allowed and progeny that survive to become slight salt tolerant. Don't wimp out.
You may be at a point of no return, because...
If you do wimp out, your fish will die anyway, so what's the point of being wimpy.

Hello; I did a search and found this post from a while ago by duanes. I think your tank is a 90 gallon so say about somewhere around three pounds if I am figuring correctly.

Crazy question but can I dump this salt into boiling water to get it to dissolve?? The crystals are huge - i'm getting tired of whisking... lol! (Obviously I'd cool it down and add prime before putting it in....)

Putting it into a filter or sump will allow it to gradually dissolve over a few hours, and not totally shock your ailing fish all at once.
I see no reason to boil it.
It will take days, maybe even a week for all ick to hatch out. They are programed to hatch at different times, under different conditions.
And if you vacuum the substrate (which will help eliminate some dormant cysts) you will need to approximate replace the salt removed with the water change.
Salt doesn't work over night, it sometimes takes weeks to get them all, it is not like a pill you take, and all is rosy.(especially the dormant stragglers).

Dumped about 3 1/2 lbs. salt in sump (tank is closer to 100 gal. with sump.) Raised the temp to 83, put 10 tsp of an herbal parasite treatment from Petco, and started a drop of garlic on food 2x/day. That's all I can do I guess. Now I wait :/

hello; You are not the first to do this but it likely is a bad idea. That being using two different medications at the same time. While I am not familiar with the herbal parasite treatment from Petco it very well may function the same way as the salt treatment does. The two treatments together may do some harm where as either alone should be fine. This shotgun approach is generally not such a good idea.
Since you have access to some well informed people here why not run such an idea by them before trying things at random. Duanes knows his stuff about the ich. may I suggest again your doing a search about ich.

One other thing, consider a QT (quarantine tank) for the future.

I still think the temp is low and have doubts about two medications at the same time.
Good luck

Oh, oops, sorry - didn't think it was a big deal since it's non-chemical. Our local family owned store wanted me to do salt AND m. green with formalin which just sounded so nasty (I didn't do that. ) My only issue with bumping the temp up any more is that i'm leaving Fri-Tues. My neighbor is watching the fish but it was complicated enough showing her everything else... Duanes - everyone seems to trust you. Want to lay out the plan for me going forward? I'd really appreciate it! More salt at some point? Higher temp? Stop with the herbal treatment?

hello; I do not guess the PRIME will do any harm but can not think of a reason to add prime if you put the salt in the sump and let it slowly dissolve.

Thank you! I guess
I can bump it up to 85 and hold my breath while I'm away... Here's a video of Ich up close on my lovely Uaru and Gold Severum... :( (Don't mind the loudmouth in the background... lol!)
