Wow!!!! Africans with ich?!!!! They never get ich!!!!
I think I mentioned this before but just in case I didn't, test your water. If african cichlids get ich there could be somehting very wrong.
Although I would permently remove the lobster because of future compatability issues, espcially when it molts. You will need to remove it during treatment. I bet that a copper type treatment would kill it. Some of the common treatments that work are Nox-ick, MaraCide, Aquari-sol, and I'm sure many others. Nox-ich is pretty strong so don'r over dose it. Nox -Ich and MaraCide bothe will turn your water green during treatment, may stain the silicone in your aquarium. Aquari-sol it not as strong but will not turn your water green or stain your silicone. Just follow the directions on the bottle. Remove your carbon during treatment. Give your tank a big water change both before and after treatment, put fresh carbon back in when done to help remove any residual medication.
Well, my peacock died today. It didn't look that bad, there were only a few white spots on it, is that normal with ich? I tested my water and my nitrates are 40 ppm my nitrites are about zero and there is no ammonia.
My ich problem in my saltwater tank didn't respond to the usual remedies. I did several substantial water changes and changed out the replaceable filter media. I upped the temperature. I tried the freshwater dip on my pseudochromis (the only living fish showing symptoms) twice and the little white spots kept recurring.
Today I got a diatom filter on the advice of the LFS. (No ulterior motive on their part, since they don't sell them, and I had to get it elsewhere.) I just hooked it up. I'm hoping this will do the trick since I am paranoid about adding chemicals -- ANY chemicals -- to me fledgling reef tank.
Any further advice on this course of action? Should I leave the diatom running until all of the symptoms disappear? A few days? Overnight? Other things to try in conjunction with the filter?
Ich in freshwater doesn't scare me at all, but this has me on pins and needles!!!
