What happens after a fish catches ich?

I understand that ich causes burning of the gills and flesh eating bacteria to mount onto their bodies,
but what happens after they are free of the white spots? I assume that the burnt gills remain, does that mean they will stint and be stressed for the rest of their lives? or is it that the ich has not left yet; if so, when it does, will the fish go back to being stress-free?

just make sure whatever you use is safe for the rest of your fish... not all fish are cool with copper

NO, no, no....

Increase temp to somewhere in the 80's, add some salt (not much), and WAIT. Salt kills ich. Life cycle at temps in the 80's is 4 days. Understand you are accelerating life cycle, so it WILL get worse before it gets better. Water changes every day during the 4 day cycle of 50% with thorough gravel vac will eliminate unattached cysts and free-swimmers.

If you catch it early, ich is really just a nuisance. The danger is secondary infections.

Copper is harmful to invertebrates and plants.

PREVENTION: QUARANTINE AND FREQUENT WATER CHANGES, AVOID STRESS (OVERCROWDING, BULLYING, AND NETTING).
