my Oscar has ick so I raised my temp to 84. and I added quick cure to the tank at half the dose. with a tbs of salt to 10 gallons. now my cory and my raphel catfish are breathing hard. I don't know what I did wrong. I did a 50 percent water change and stopped the meds and salt. I still have the temp at 84. I hope I didn't hurt them. what else should I do. I don't want to use meds again. I have been reading about adding salt to the tank and people say to use salt with scaleless fish and some say don't. so I am on a stand still. I don't know what to do.:irked: I need help. thank you

ok thank you so much. so I don't need to add salt or anything? how many flushes should I do?

When I had ick I raised my temp to 86 and moved my filter out put and dropped my water level to creat the most water agitation for oxygen I could. I also did a 25% water change every other day. I used no meds and no salt.

dude when my fish get ick (wich they rarely ever do) I put the temps up and let it run its course. you apparently made a mistake with your heaters or something like that which is understandable but I feel like when you make things more complicated by doing all these wacky procedures you stress the fish more. after your fish survive ick they are more immune to it after. and if they die oh well they weren't strong enough to make the cut (unfortunately). basically I like to let my fish tough it out(ofcourse I raise the temp). but just in the future dude keep in mind some of these things. I wish you the best. goodluck

It's not good to use formalin (quick cure) and salt together. It's even worse to use heat, medication and salt together.

Add aeration, try just heat and watch the fish. If they can handle that, you can get rid of the ich with no salt or meds.

Use some carbon to get the little bit of meds you have in the tank out.

86 degrees will kill ich. I would set it to 87 to be sure.

ok thank you I guess I was stupid for what I did. I was reading on this website where I read about using salt. I am still new to fish I guess I was just trying to help my fish. I guess I learned the hard way...
