Ick in Ray Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Swedeboy, is there any possibility the Ick was introduced to the tank (ex- new fish added, new plant or substrate added from another tank or using a net dipped in an infected tank)?

I've read that Ick has to be introduced (that it doesn't just lie dormant), but I have heard of some people having a random outbreak in an established tank.

In any case, hope it clears up quickly. Just an FYI, I've found that it will typically get worse before it gets better...just stick with the treatment and don't go nuts with increasing the temp too much or adding too much salt...86F and 2 tablespoons per 5 gallons did the trick for me. I would keep this up for at least 1 week until after the last visible sign has disappeared to be sure it's been fully eradicated.

If you raise the temp to 88 you will have no problems at all if 88 was a issue my rays would all die every year

Just make sure you have lots of air in the tank

Thanks all. I now know it came from feeders, I have a separate tank with them and just bought a whole bunch and they all have ick.

Temp is 86, 3 days into it so we'll see how it goes.

Dude you are lucky it is only ich... I had a whole tank of fish (no rays) die from something introduced from feeders... I would strongly consider not using them anymore.

I know man but my cuda only eats live. I've gotten away with it for 2.5 yrs but this was a scare that will lead me to re-home him.
