Well haven't posted asap since I thought it was ich until after temp at 86 degrees and had plenty of salt in the water and nothing changed and got even worse. Lots of white spots all over and now one of the tiger sds dorsal fin is splitting. I added copper yesterday but after 24 hours no difference usually with the ick I usually get I use salt and warm water and poof it's gone in a couple days. Kinda panicking since I've never had this before... Really surprised maybe it isn't Ich?? I added copper so that should help for external parasites right? My tanks were fine before I think moving the tiger sds out of growout into with the pikes caused them to get stressed. I'll add pics soon really puzzled what I've been using for years all of sudden doesn't work anymore. I did a 75% WC yesterday too

I've had ich get worse when using heat (87F) and salt. I just stayed the course with the heat and salt treatment.

How long did you maintain the heat and salt before switching to copper treatment?

There's still heat and salt in there. Additionally added copper yesterday. I got a baby Pbass covered in ich and I had temp 87 and heavy salt and cleared it up in 2 days. Never had anything bad come of heavy heating. Had salt and heat for maybe almost 5 days Id like to say

Because ich is known worldwide, I question the idea that temp, or simple osmotic conditions alone are effective at totally wiping it out, especially with the quick and ease of imports of potential carriers these days. North American variants may be vulnerable, but what of variants from other continents, especially in places where a plethora of antibiotics is randomly used.
Many of these primitive organisms have the ability to adapt to extremes, and if only one survives high temp, its progeny will carry on that ability.
I also worry about the ability of certain bacteria to piggy back on the ich parasite causing secondary infection, especially at high temps (especially those antibiotic resistant strains).
One of those is the opportunistic pathogen F. columnarae which thrive at temps in the high 80s.
My point is, I like to use any and all ammo in my arsenal, quickly to arrest ich before it has a chance to create any extra problems.

Thanks duanes! I haven't really paid much attention to it but I certainly like your idea of ich being able to evolve it def makes sense.

I'm getting some "blue ich" medication from a friend tomorrow I think it's methyl blue based but I'm also probably going to pick up a malachite green solution. A copper based solution is also supposed to be good right? Is it ok if I use all of those together at once? Not really sure what the chemistry of the water will be like if they all mix

Back when I first started keeping fish in the late 50s, it was common practice to throw a few pennies in the aquarium if fish got ich. Back then, pennies were actually made of copper.

I read about that in older literature actually. Thought it was odd they'd do that with turtles too.
The medication I'm getting from my friend is actually nox-ich haha so I'm strapped. Can I safely mix it with a copper based med? Idk that's kind of a wierd question haha

I wouldn't mix copper and Nox ich(salt and MG), one or the other should do it. Also there are other white spot protozoans that resemble ich, that will not respond to salt treatments.

Ok Ich is clearing up on the marmorata pikes, but in a diff tank the tiger sds the ich is still bad. Also a fish was harassing them too now they're separated... The pike tank was treated with just 30% copper since there were fine scaled fish in there while the silver dollar tank was treated at full strength. Hoping for the Tigers to pull through
