Knee deep in fish
heres the deal.4 days ago my aro showed up with ick but my loaches showed no sign visible i raised the temp and added salt by last night no ick showing on anyone so today i got home from work and my big clown loach is showing ick i did another w/c added more salt temp is 83 water params are great so is this normal or am i having a super outbreak i was planning to treat for about 10 days but with this new development should i step up my treatment measures

Ask ewurm w/ the loaches, but I would suggest constant treatement until you can't see ich anymore and then for another 3 days, unless any of the fish look stressed.

Do treatment of salt for two weeks. I did this with my loaches for two weeks with only a mild outbreak. In the meantime, provide them plenty of foods so they can obtain vitamins to be able to resist the ich.

As CLs already prefer the high end of the temperature spectrum, it may be acceptable to bump it up a few more degrees to rid your fish of the ich. (www.loaches.com lists CL temp range at 78-83)..

I have a main treatment and a backup. First course is a temp of 86 and 2 tsp per gallon of aquarium salt. Leave it like that for at least a week after the ich disappears. For tough cases you can also add formalin/methylene blue, but it's hard on the fish so use as a last resort.

Are clown loaches highly susceptable to ich?

Mine have had it like 3-4 times in a period of maybe 21 days. I always catch it early so I just put a little salt in and it goes away over night, but i dunno its just weird.

Did you even continue treatment a week after the spots disappeared? If you didn't, you are supposed to do that.

Yep, the ich lifecycle goes for about 5 days. Even after it is no longer visible on the fish, you could have some living in the gravel waiting to attach.
