Just got this guy from a fish farm and wondering what type catfish it is. The seller said its from China. Does anyone know what catfish it is? It's hard to see in the photo but it's body is yellowish brown with small black spots all over.

Nope. Idk what it is but I can assure you it's not that. Whiskers are much to short and it's adipose fin is much to large. Head shape and eye positioning is also different.
You might be right moe214 moe214 .

It does not look to have enough of a snout to be an Asian Redtail. It could be a species of Nahanbagrus?

I/we'd need more and better photos. It does look like a Bagridae, perhaps from the Hemibagrus or Mystus genus. Not Nanobagrus genus, I don't think so. The huge adipose is reminiscent of the Bagrichthys aka lancer catfishes but it is not one of those.

Looks like a Hemibagrus to me and not a common species. I'd not dare to propose a species. Post on Planet Catfish for a definitive ID from Silurus aka Dr. Heok Hee Ng who revised the genus recently.

Or I can post there if you'd like to go this route.
