Id cichlid help

Hello all,
New to this forum and cichlids in general.
I bought this little guy labled as a texas cichlid, but I was unsure if it actually was. Anyone who has any idea what it is please share!

Ok cool, and thanks. Believe it or not they were taken using my cell phone camera! Any idea on diet? I have just been feeding him a staple of pellets and flakes.

Also, I have him in a 40 breeder. Could I possibly do a pair? If so, how would I know if mine is a male or female?
Sorry I have so many questions, it's just I'm new to cichlids and I dont know much about this species as I just found out what it is.

Gymnogeophagus sp. Likely rhabdotus, meridionalis, or one of several undescribed species.

Two completely different fish go back to where you got them and get a Texas..

40b is plenty dependant on the exact one you have as some of them get fairly large. Keep a good amount of floor space open with substrate small enough for him to scoop into his mouth

I feed mine new life spectrum, whatever the other cichlids don't get is cleaned up by their scooping . Enjoy the new fishy and welcome to the forum and cichlids!
