ID cichlid plz

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they both are around 5 inches and i got them from aquatics and exotics in cincinnati (do you have any LFS that you could recommend?) and yes 40$ was alot but they are something i have been eyeing for awhile and they are supposedly a proven breeding pair but idk

At 5", $40 isn't too bad--especially for a pair. If you have room for them, go for it. They can be great looking peacocks.

I am in Muncie. I know all the LFS in Muncie, Anderson, Marion, and most in Indy and Ft. Wayne. I do not know any that far south. If you are close in Cincinnati, check out Bluegrass Aquatics. It isn't a store front, but I believe you can make an appt and visit. He has some great fish.

he has a nice selection and he is alittle too far away from me lol or i would go to get some fish

Yeah looks like a sunshine peacock my lfs sells males that size for $40 a piece .One thing to be aware of with African Cichlids is its usually best to have multiple females per male or the one female may get harassed to death.

REaLLY?! these were a trade in so there is no telling when i could get more how long will they last and what are the chances of this happening?

I think it is an Aulonocara Stuartgranti. A benga or a sunshine would only be blue on the lower half of the face, Stuartgranti have blue over the top of the head as well as the whole face.

that one thing i was wondering about maybe breeeding colors? but his fins are yellowish red not blue

I'm beginning to agree that it's a A. Baenschi, (benga peacock) I did find a picture of one with the blue covering the whole face like your fish in one of Paul Loisellle's books.
I also compared your picture to the October 2004 issue of cichlid news, Which has detailed photo's of all known color variations of A. Stuartgranti, and yours doesn't match any exactly, so Benga is my final answer.

thanks shellies215 :) i googled pics and looked around and he looks just like them so yep hes an A. Baenschi
