I do sometimes with my discus or other fish. Sometimes my fish are more active/excited during a water change and I catch things like pairing activity on video. My avatar is a pair of Laetacara displaying to one another during a water change.

I'd be interested to hear how large the tank is. The pictures show it looking pretty packed, but I guess if they were all crowded in one corner during a water change it would put a different spin on things.

It was just my opinion.

And it was judging by pics posted in another thread, that have now been removed, together with these, lead me to the assumption, that the fish's conditions really are poor.

I get what your saying about educating, instead of instantly banning, and i'm all for that.
But this is to me not a case of uneducation, but a case of lack of basic understanding of how to treat living things.
Any responsible fish owner, and person for that matter, would atleast research abit on theire own, if not before, then immediatly after aquiring any fish and tank, so you can take the best possible care of them.

Those shots could very easily be during a water change. Some people take pics during water change to get pics of particularly active fish. As you drain water out, the less room the fish have to run away and hide. The only bad thing about that is they usually don't display their full colors because of the stress of the water change. That's the only thing that I can see wrong with these fish is that they don't have the best color, but that would be very normal if, as has been said, these pics were taken during a water change or something like that. They all look nice and fat so they clearly are being taken care of.

As for the fish Identity, I def. agree with Oreochromis mossambicus. I'm not going to speculate as to the sex of the fish but it clearly is not a CA/SA cichlid. :)

He probably isn't an experienced fish keeper, or at least hasn't been on fish forums for very long, because otherwise he would have made sure to clarify that the pictures were taken during a water change or other special circumstances, and that they were not an accurate representation of the normal condition of the tank.

Assuming that pictures actually were taken during a water change, of course.

You definitely should not ban someone who needs to improve the conditions for their fish. That is totally counter-productive. Those people need to be around more so they can learn not banned.

i agree with you cape fear. where has he stated the tank size or filtration. he does keep posting pics with "low" water levels but it could have been during a water change.

noobs don't need to be harassing other noobs, especially one that is posting...
some people always have bad manner until die:headbang2

all his fish look like they're in good health. i dont see any signs of ick, cloudy eyes, torn fins, etc. so STFU

wow n0ob...how about you ASK him if thats how he keeps his tanks? or open up discussion about the conditions his fish seem to be in, "sick" according to you..instead of jumping the gun and ASSuming the worst. If thats how he keeps them, I think an explanation of how they need to be kept is better than calling for a "BAN", dont you? and youve been here, what...20 days and already youre trying to dictate free speech and aquascaping? Give it a rest.

There could be any number of reasons they are like that, the first being inexperience, which we are here to help.

Once youve been here longer than 20 days, youll come to find that most people that keep fish in to small tanks etc are either young as hell, dont know any better or have been mislead by the internet or local LFS.

Dont want everyone here banning the new guy for popping off at the mouth without knowing the circumstances now, do ya?:screwy:
x2 what an a**hole :)
