and dont forget to tell all those people posting pics of their mixed dogs in the show your dog thread in the photo lounge their garbage too.

Totally different. All dogs are descended from the same species. Selective breeding vs. hybridization.

I'm no hybrid fan, but I don't bash those who keep them.

The hybridization of fish in the hobby is diluting the pure species and is not condusive to species maintenace. Many of the fish that are being hybrizided my unknowing or uncareing people are rare or endangerd in nature. We as hobbyist should strive to keep species pure for the sake of the fish, careless hybridization within the hobby is doing major damage in my opinion and should be discouraged at every turn. People are crossing everything now and then dumping them on unsuspecting people who are new to the hobby, yes I should have explained this , but I have done it hundreds of times and just get tired of seeing people post fish I consider garbage fish that should be destroyed, and posted in this section where real species belong. There is a hybrid section on this and many other cichlid forum for this kind of posting, I don't go to the hybrid threads ever, so will not comment on fish posted there. There are even whole forums devoted to hybrid lovers and you can go there also. Report me if you like, but I will call a hybrid an abomination every time I see one posted. They are a scourge to the hobby and I hate them. Keep pure species folks! The guy asked what this fish is, it's a hybrid, garbage fish. No disrespect, just the truth. Ken

I understand your distain for the hybrid species. I'm not a fan of them myself. But this guy was just asking what he had, not our opinions on it. He probably is new to the hobby and didn't know better. Sometimes saying less is more, and he probably didn't know it was a hybrid to begin with.

*Edited....

Just because you say "no disrespect" does not mean what you said was not disrespectful. Same as saying "no offense", which we all know means, "take offense now"...There is a time and place for everything.

If you don't like hybrids, don't post. No fish is garbage, as it is still a fish. Hybrids happen in the wild even, so don't get on your high horses about hybrids, and bash other members, or their fish.

i don't get why people don't like hybrids some look really good

sorry don't know what kind of hybrid that is the texs looks like a hybrid with midas mabye

wow! i know if i saw that fish, hybrid or not, i'd deffinately impulse buy it! Looks nice and i'm betting it'll attain some size. How big is it now, or did i miss that somewhere?

Sorry from the long absent. I had to come to terms with my purchase, long restless nights in the fetal position crying myself to sleep. Oh no it's happening again.... Truthfully I thought what was posted was funny. I bought this fish at the lfs it was labeled a red texas at 1.5" its sometimes hard to tell as the fish grow i knew it was no texas. So I posted some pics to see if anyone knew. The mutt is currently 7.5"

I'm also not a real fan of hybrids but i do like the red texas to me they have great color and i 've been in the hobby on and off for 16 years mostly kept oscars and jd

That guy looked fairly new to your site guys and that was a pretty bad thing to say to a guy who may be not only be new here but new to the hobby as well. Maybe an explanation of why you feel hybrids are bad for the hobby in a more tasteful way would have been a little more appropriate. Just a thought.

I just signed up here myself and this is one of the first threads I have read. I have to tell ya I am not impressed with how this guy was treated here. This kind of thing drives people away from participation on forums. If you are so against Hybrids you should try to educated people not make them intimidated to ask further questions. I'm hoping this is not a common occurrence on this site.

Most of the people in these forums are positive and don't grief.
