ID Cobalt hybrid?

Thanks for the links w/ pics strait, very helpful. Under the M. zebra one I noticed it said "OB males and females do not aquire the blotches until at least 3 months old." That statement is pretty accurate to my fish, as it started out all light blue and over the past 3-4 months the dark blue splotches are really starting to show up.

There's just so many species' it makes your head spin, but really cool to read up on and figure out.

I want some frontal shots as well. Definitely not Callainos, but it might be a pure specie: OB Zebra. I need more pictures please.

I'll try to get some better shots tommorrow, they're all in bed right now counting spirulina flakes.

If I had to guess it would be the OB slim/compact but I really can't say for sure since I didn't breed them.

Why not try and get in contact with the seller and ask what other fish he was breeding/growing out at the time he sent you the callainos?

Contacted the online dealer, this is what they said:

"That is a Blueberry OB zebra which is a more expensive fish."

The only annoying thing is that, I didn't ask for it, I wanted a Cobalt Blue. It's like they're saying I got a better value than the thing I wanted, dummies.

Ordered two Cobalts Blue's online, this was one of the two. It's light blue with dark blue speckles all over. My alpha Cobalt torments it constantly:

that is are HB, Cobalt males are very aggressive but they are nice A.Cichlid's.

I like them, they're cool buddy. "Marmalade OBs" are good to keep as well. :)

If they sent me a reply like that I'd still ask WTF it was. That's not really an ID since every blue OB zebra species I've seen has commercially gone by "blueberry".
The question is, is it M. callainos, M. estherae, M. sp. slim/compact, etc. IMO he didn't answer your question. But he's willing to credit you for it on your next order so I guess that's decent.

A "marmalade" and OB is the same thing. Term ("marmalade cat" to be exact, don't ask me where the "cat" part came from) coined for male OB Labeotropheus sp. I've seen it applied to other OB species but it's a common term, not a species. ;)

It is definitly a beautiful OB ..what ever kind...
