http://www.cichlidae.info/phpBB2/index.php if you dont want to register only for this id i can post the pict for you.this fish look like a anthurus http://www.amazon-exotic-import.de/Gallerie/Cichliden/Seiten/Crenicichla anthurus.htm

Thanks k98, I'm registered just couldn't figure out what the "crc" was for :D . I lurk mostly but the access comes in handy. Will definitely check the boards over there to see what they say.

So far all the pikes suggested yet look quite close. The picture of the juvenile anthurus almost looks spot on but I notice they lack the much of the spangling spangling so obvious in the fins of these guys.
I couldn't find pictures of C. "pindare" but found links to a sp. Pacaya and that one looks damn close! Wouldn't surprise me if that was it.
Pretty close guys! Any other suggestions will be considered.

Awesome!!!! Very impressive pick up!! If there are any more, let me know!! ;). I have mostly only kept Lugubris group pikes, so my familiarity in IDing the Saxatilis group of pikes is limited at best..haha. It really inhibits the ability to ID them though considering that you don't know of their collection area. Also, they are still juv. so they are not showing their full adult coloration, makin it harder to ID them as most pictures of pikes on the internet are adults. However, there are a few species that immidiately come to mind with the possibility of them being: TRUE Crenicichla saxatilis (very rare and hard to find...), Crenicichla cf. saxatilis, Crenicichla lepodita, or Crenicichla albopunctata.

They are very beautiful pikes indeed! The spangling on their dorsal and anal fins is quite unique and very attractive! They will have some killer coloration as adults! ;) I am curious to see what the other pike enthusiasts have to say, particularly Jon and Dan, as they have extensive experience with Saxatilis pikes! :D

The good thing with Sax group is that they dont have the color changes like talking about and the dorsal usually is the telling sign of sex.. The bad is most have spangles and 2 dots.

Looks like 1 is more dominant already. Try to get that one alone and it should show all the characterisitcs to allow a better suggestion.

Well I went back to the shop where I purchased my 3.
The guy still had one from the batch I bought and several more in the back. He said they were the same thing he ordered mine as and I was able to snap some pictures of them.
Along with the new batch came an adult breeding pair of something he claimed was not the same. He put in the same tank as the others. He was selling the smaller ones as "Crenicichla Pernambuco". It doesn't sound right to me to be honest but that's all I've gotten so far. So without further ado:

The new batch varied. Some had spangles, one or two of them had none whatsoever:

This one's supposed to be a female due to the black smudge in the dorsal. No white edging:

The adult breeding pair, which were sexed by the same "black smudge" method:

Understandibly these guys were lacking in color compared to my youngsters. Either age to tank conditions to fault. Most of the ones at the shop were 5-6", 1-2" bigger than mine.

Aye, last picture is of sveni...totally different species compared to the ones formerly posted. Very kewl. And yes, most saxatilis pikes can be sexed due to the females havin one to many black splotches in the dorsal fin...;)
