mayb a Haplochromis venustus or a Hap simillis cloest Pic in my Atlas

again princley? i understand how the confusion can be happen because of the blue face and yellow. but a venustus has big spots on it. this has strips if you haven't noticed. it's not either. i've already made that detection. so has honda 12. check the link above to see what we believe it is.

i am looking in a Atlas of a older fish to start it matches two Pic of Haps the Ven and the simillis looks more of the later a 895 page Atlas 8 fish on each page and if it is in FACT a Aristochromis then it is not a Hap

Yeah itls deffinatly not an otopharanx lithobates from that picture. One way you can tell if it is one of those is that they have 3 spots on the side of their body.

I do know what you have though. You actually have one of my favorites of the protomelas group. It is one of these two.

You most likely have the first one from mara rocks the they are more commonly encontured from what I have found. Either way you have a very nice fish there. Their even cooler when you have a 10in one.

Hope this helps you out.

thanks a lot. after mannnnny hours of staring at my screen, i was convinced it was a sulfur head after all. but i trust you more than myself, so i need confirmation. thanks for all of the compliments. i haven't however, seen the three spots. what exactly are you talking about?

The lithobates have three spots or bloches on the side of their body when stressed or in the juvie stage or when it is a female. Scroll down on this site to see what I mean.

Protomelas sp. have more of a stripe pattern which you can see a little bit in the pictures that you posted.

Also from the better picture I can see that your fish has more of a rounded head like a protomelas sp. unlike the otopharanx that has a more pointed head.

Hope this clears it up for you.
