definitely not, if anything it looks like a polypterus of some sort

Bowfin. Amia calva. The circular (heterocercal) caudal fin and the black eye spot give it away. Often confused with Channa species, it is native to the united states.

It's not a Pike Cichlid or a Bichir or a Bowfin. These are fish commonly mistaken for Snakeheads. But this is 100% a Snakehead, a member of the genus Channa (Asia) or Parachanna (Africa).
