id gar fry....i found me some!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you peed in the water???

....i can't tell you that, thats is personal information and you already know to much...

LOL. what to hog all the gars eh?

no the main reason is that i fish there alot and i get large sturgeons there so the spot is one that only select people can know about. all the person would have to do is research the local river systems and they can find gars without to much difficulty. they are just not every were. i can not give my fishing spots away. the fish in my avatar came from one of these spots. if everyone knew were they were it would be bad for many species of fish because not everyone is a careful as i am.

update on them, my 3 1" gars died. i left the light on to long and they got to hot.

i had low expectations for them, because they were so small. i was about to get a brine shrimp hatch kit for them but i seen them floating. i did a wc to be safe and turned the light off. the light is a 150w halogen bulb because i was all out of tanks and lights so i had to wing this set up together.

-just catching up with this now. nice find, but sorry to hear about the loss of several gars. they are extremely fragile when that small, and just about anything can cause mortality.

as far as ID, i am with Richard on this...most look like LNG, MAYBE a SNG in there. i know we both have SNG small YOY pics somewhere that we can dig up. keep us posted on the remaining fish, we should be able to tell pretty easily in the next week or so. good luck!--

if you can keep the guppy fry available they will grow extremely fast, so keep that up! if you run out, sometimes you can get small white clouds which are small and slim enough for small YOY gar (compared to adult guppies or rosies). if you get in a pinch, just go back to your capture area and net up some zooplankton (Daphnia, etc) or mosquito larvae and that will help. if you REALLY end up low on food get some brine shrimp to keep them fat until they are big enough to take down more readily available feed. good luck!--

i am just across the river to the west;) i don't know this group will be a great jump start for my gar breeding trial plans. i know it is a far thing, but i will be doing that at some point. i have a line on the hormones if it comes down to that, but i am going to go the pond way first.

i got 50-75 fry from my lfs and another 50 mix 20% male to 80% female to include many preg females already to help the fry being a constant flow. i was hoping the smallest would be able to get some newborn guppy fry. that goal is lost now, but the mass fry production is still a must. the lsf i go to has 1000's of guppys and they all produce fry daily. i am looking for glass worms and mosquito larva all the time. i have even kicked around live black worms and the brine shrimp hatchery.
