Precisely. Better to lose a tank full of hybrid un-ID'd cichlid fry than a frag tank full of $5-$15 coral frags.
 
There is a fish at my LFS in upstate ny that looks exactly like your fish they have labeled as Dovii x Salvini hybrid.

Will try to get a new pic up. Fish was acclimating last night this morning. Very active when lights out, hiding a little when lights on. Hopefully in next day or two. It is eating though.

I could definitely see from the first pics why you said that. Take as many guesses as you want. I'm not sure what it is. Don't want to stress it out anymore by taking it out and venting. For some reason i'm leaning towards female but i couldn't give any decent reason as to why.
 
It will have a dark black blotch on the dorsal if female
 
I look at the latest picture, I see Amphilophus. I see the same body shape as a Lyonsi or a Trimac. The dorsal fin markings and color look Lyonsi/Trimac to me, too. FPNI. It's a mix. Looks good, though. Post pics in the Flowerhorn section, see if they can tell more from the pictures.

I'll bet it's gonna be mean. How big is it?
