ID help appreciated

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I picked up this guy from Pet Smart as a Texes Red at a little less than 1" in length at the time.

Introduced him into a 90 gal tank along with a female juv JD/female firemouth/female convict.

The tank already had Rosy barbs and Tiger barbs (mainly as dither fish), the can hold their own compared to some dither fish, also 5 giant danios.

In a very short period of time this fish was turning into a tank killer - is it truly a Texas Red or as some of the other threads regarding TR's from PS was it mis-ID'd and something else?

Here's the killer

Right now it is about 4" and is showing no signs of slowing down - he/she will easily consume 10 rosy feeders in less than 24 hrs.

Thanks in advance.

Up'd the temp to 82-84 degrees, it definately helped with the fishes activity - became much more active.

Feeding high quality pellets 3x per week, beefheart 2x per week, 30% water change 1x per week.

Here are the reuslts for far.

Looking more and more like some form of midas - thoughts guys?

Actually a very nice Mid-Devil. And unfortunately it's nothing like a red tex.

I was leary of the ID if the fish at PS to begin with and while hoping that it was in fact a Texas Red I am definitely glad I kept him/her to see the transformation.

This fish is a real glass banger!

It's too bad I can't move him back to my 90 gal since he would kill everything in it. :(
