I'll take half a dozen!

They look familiar for some reason, but I can't place them off the top of my head. And Vinny's site looks to be down.

Not Sure But Sweet!!!!! Most Impressive!!!! What were they sold to you as???? Maybe start there.... The pair look awesome!!! Did i say tht already??? Nice find what ever they are.

Are they juvie or adults??? Tht could be the issue in I.D. I would liketo know meself I want a few.

Proteus???

Don't believe so, the eye spot for proteus is usually black and the female dorsal pattern is quite a bite different, almost like classic regani in shape but black/red instead of black/white.

Thanks friends for the input thus far. I've been searching the web trying to ID these two since I got them a week ago with no luck. I saw these two in separate tanks at a LFS with one labeled "Red Pike Cichlid" (the one with the pinkish belly) and the other labeled as a "Purple Pike Cichlid". I was told at the time that the store had had them for over a week and that they were a "one-time" only availablity from their supplier. After spending a good amount of time asking more information on them, the "aquarium fish manager" indicated that they were a male and a female of the same species and according to their supplier they were wild caught and were labeled as Xingu Sp. on their supplier's list. They didn't know if the were fully grown adults or not. The "red" one was supposed to be the male and the "purple" one was supposed to be the female. The female is about 6" and the male is about an inch smaller. I hope this info helps with the ID.

I agree with Darth Pike on the classic regani shape, but that particular kind of eye spot I've never seen before on a dwarf pike.
