ID Help

Looks like a haplochromis of some sort, but it is hard to say.
 
agreed, def a hap of some sort, but it is too young for any, for sure, ID. Yeah, the female elecric blues don't have those stripes...at least none that i have ever had or seen. They sometimes have a series of 3-5 spots in a row, but no stripe, and they are also more brown than silver.

so for right now, it's not a female ahli, and sure doesn't look like a male either.

You are absolutely right. I did some research on that species and found
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1369 the young male pictured in the article looks just like my fish in question. The outside fins are starting to colour up nicely. I will add some new pics to show.
