I'd like to hear from anyone who keeps Parachromis dovii(s) in a community setting. I'd like to know everything you know. I have four of the five Parachromis species in the same tank, along with some other big cichlids. They all get along well enough. Well enough to have two breeding pairs, a loiselli pair and a jag pair. I've been growing out a female mota and will be getting a male mota when my new tank is finally up and running.

Now, I know the reputation of the dovii. Killing "just because" and all that. I think the most awesome sight would be all five Parachromis species together in the same tank. What are the chances of this? I bet near zero (because of the dovii). But, with all my "incompatible" fishes getting along, it gives me a small amount of hope that this may be possible. What say you all?

I'd like to hear all dovii owners with cichlid tankmates chime in. Thanks very much for looking and thanks very much for this great forum.:)

Well I can't say I've ever done it myself but I do know of a certain some one with a 10,000 gallon tank in which two large dovii seem to own an entire corner :P

Highly un likely it can be done unless a very large tank(few thousand gal). You will probably have trouble with the male Mota also, next to the Dovii they are the most agressive parachromis

I had four Parachromis species in a 210 g tank for a long time (Friedricksthalli, Loisellei, Managuense & Motaguense). One time I added a female dovii (smallest) but it only lasted a few days. I had to remove it because it was very aggressive towards the female freddy, male & female Loisellei, and female Motaguense.

That sounds like a cool tank. Got any pics or a link?

I know a dovii for me is an extreme long shot unless kept solitary or as a pair. The mota on the other hand, maybe not. I'll have to see what the temperament is like of the individual male a friend has for me. But, I have a lot of fishes that should be trouble. And they're not at all. Thanks for the tip though.;)

You can do anything with a big enough tank. How's that for a yen answer? Start with a 300 gallon tank for the Dovii alone and build from there.

So, 300g plus whatever the other fishes require to get along? I don't have that much room. Yet.:D I guess for now, I'll just have to enjoy pics of others' doviis.

female would be ok

Female doviis are nice, but to me, there's nothing like the sight of a full grown male. I would probably not add a female, the male doviis just have more appeal to me. Although a dovii x freddy/loiselli/mota/jag would probably look pretty cool (if a female were to hook up with one of my other Parachromises).

That sounds like almost every dovii I've ever heard of.:D

I love your big tank and was looking at pics of it again tonight because I was bored. How did those dovii x jag fry ever turn out? I couldn't find any pics of any grown out in your threads.
