Yea i wouldn't keep it long term. Whatever you are keeping it in the meantime...get it in some humidity so it can shed properly.

They get huge and are not the friendliest of snakes. I would put him back, mostly out of fear :)

You can keep him a while, fatten him up, then put him back

yeah cool find man,i wonder why its so dried up.He looks dehydrated and skinny. If he eats then thats a great sign.Im thinking some shallow luke warm water for a bit.I bet he even starts drinking it but dont do it if he cant lift its head out of the water without stretching out.I think you may have just saved this guy,and dang the pic of the teeth,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,reminded me of the movie tremors.

Ah i see. Well, you'll have to have an area for him to bask so he can thermo-regulate. Not sure what their average diet is at that age in the wild, but I can't see it passing up a gecko... Looks like a beautiful place to be. I'd be tempted to put him back after a while.

will do! thanks

he does look thin, but then i've never seen a fat wild snake lol.

I have!!! The boa I saw in Mexico was huge, but the monkey it ate might have had something to do with it.

that snake looks dehydrated and hungry...

it will turn into a monster so, absent a big and proper enclosure I would let it go...and look for a ball python instead...

Beautifull litle snake, but with time and care it can turn into a very large and powerfull animal:) A while ago I ve seen a baby like yours in a spanish pet shop and it was going cheap :irked:.The poor guy that buys it doesant knows what he´s geting into:D. I recomend that you give to that skinny critter some nice meals , water , warm and peace. Let him faten up and later realease him. One big problem I see in keeping him there will be the constant suplly of adecuat feeders: first mice , then rats and rabits

After seeing that pic of the adult's teeth, I'd say put him back! Looks really skinny though. Very cool snake!!!

lol thats what i was thinkin bugger keepin that lol

My advice would be to put it back. It doesn't look to healthy and african rocks tend to be very feisty. You can get a snake like that or, even better, a Burmese python that is "pet grade". In other words healthy and has been handled since birth so it is much more likely to be tame. I have seen Burms for as low as $55 U.S. I agree with the recommendation of a Ball python, especially if you don't have snake experience. Even a Ball will get 5 feet plus in length, but are much less of a handfull than any of the Rock Pythons.
