Caught this a few days ago and really wanted to keep it as a pet. Seriously thinking about starting a native tank. What kind of bluegill/sunfish is this?

My first guess is a long eared sun fish, but it might be a green.

i first thought was a green........

I'd say a greenXpumpkinseed hybrid.

the yellow on the edges of the fins make it look like it has some bluegill in it. ado these also do well in warm water.

it looks almost part bluegill all ours that were in our pond (some brown plankton or whatever they called it wiped em out but i still catch some inch long baby bass and thats it) were all mixes

Blue gill and green sunfish both have a predominant dot at the caudal end of the dorsal fin. This fish does not.

Its not quite right for a long eared sunfish either.
