ID my channa

Hi....

Juvenile marulioides do not have this black blotches at the side......they are more yellow / blue

the spec. Isabella is a trading name for Channa pseudomarulia....different type locality as marulia....often misidentified....

pseudomarulia has a more arrow like head....

I keep one at home,with about 40cm.....completly different to Channa marulia and marulioides!

All of them (marulia types.....this is a species complex) grow large....

The "smallest" one is marulioides with about 65cm (that is what literature says)....
the biggest marulia ever reported was about 180cm (but I think 120cm is more real)

Ch. pseudomarulia.....well I do not know exactly,but for my opinion it might be something between marulioides and marulia....

Also there is one undiscribed marulia like fish......called spec. Mekong and spec Salween......a lot of white shining dots on the fins and the body (similar to Ch. asiatica) .....I kept these one up to 70cm....

And I think there might be a lot of others marulia like snakeheads.....type localities or own undiscribed species....

The problem is,that they all nearly look the same when they are young....

And most of the people do not keep them as long as they were fully matured and grown out!

So I think there will be a lot more suprising fish out there!

To keep a fish like marulia type the way the should be kept and feel comfortable you need a really big tank....about 3m in length an minimum 150 wide and a hight of about 70cm minimum....

Better you have a pond!

That is the way they should be kept....otherwise: NO AQUARIUMFISH!!!!

and there is no discussion about it!

I'm going to return to the LFS and see if I can get something smaller. They are currently 6 inches. I don't have room for something that large in the little place that I live in.
 
Just for the hell of it, and this is probably a really far fetched question. But, would anyone like to trade with me before I return them? I want something smaller. I'm in Taiwan. I went and got six of them. Originally, I didn't know what they were and thought maybe I could pair them off. But, no way am I going to pair these off. I use to own a pair of Argus, and they were mean as hell. These are too much for me to handle at the moment. Anyone for trade here?
