definitely a gator gar, and i would also say it looks stunted. given it is three months old, the head seems to have grown at the "normal" rate but the body has not. how often do you feed the fish, how often do you do water changes, what is the tank temperature, and what do you feed it?

it is unusual for a gator gar to stunt like this...and it could merely be the genetics of the fish or some physical defect, but it is definitely unusual.--

thanks for the information. i would guess, given the information you provided, that the fish had some sort of preexisting condition (genetic predisposition for stunting or perhaps a physical defect). either way, it may not grow normally, BUT do keep doing what you are doing as you are doing a good job maintaining it.

please keep track of its growth and keep us posted, it is very likely that the gator gar will not reach the large sizes of most individuals of the species. good luck, and let us know if you have further questions--
