that was said with a little sarcasm. people always want them to be precisely ID'd and it just isnt going to happen...unless of course you know the locality from were the fish was captured. most other methods of ID require killing the fish and performing a necropsy. the two are just so similar that there really isnt a reason to worry about which of the two you have.

Technically you do not have to kill the fish but it will require a bit of surgery though.. Primitivefishes staff are working on a less invasive method as well as a formula to ID Platyrhincus from Oculatus using meritistic analysis depending on the size of the fish...Stay tuned..Someday we might have time to publish it...;)
