I have three fish that are between the 2 and 3 inch mark. They are in a ten gallon. Don't know much about them but open to learn. :) Please give me a positive ID and any other information.

Your ID is correct. Thefishgeek is right; sunfish are fast growers and these guys will outgrow the ten gallon before too long. I suggest a 40 breeder or 55 for long-term keeping. As you've probably already found out, green sunnies will eat pretty much anything that fits in their mouths. They are also aggressive, with each other and with any tankmates; this becomes more pronounced as they mature. It's best to place driftwood or other structure in the tank so that it blocks lines of sight and gives the less dominant fish a place to hide so they're not being harrassed constantly.

they look great! but you should upgrade their tank soon, like somebody already said. and yes they are green sunfish

nice fish where you get them?

i personally was thinking about catching some sunfish here in virginia, but if you can buy them easily id much wether do that.

so sunfish are aggressive? the fishing sites ive been looking at for yellow sunfish have been telling me there schooling fish in the lakes(or is that just the lakes).

please excuse all my questions, as i just recently discovered the north american fish that are for hobbyist. fresh water is all but dead in my location, except for some cichlid enthusiast. we have 4 local saltwater stores(one has 1/10 of display space for cichlids) the only places im starting to have left for fresh are chain stores.

No such thing as yellow sunfish; you may be thinking of yellow perch. Sunfish are a whole different group. All sunfish show some aggression, but greens are the most aggressive (comparable to the most aggressive Central American cichlids).

There are several online sunfish vendors, Sachs (www.aquaculturestore.com) and Zimmerman's (http://forum.nanfa.org/index.php?showtopic=1948) being two good ones.
it may go buy another name near you, pumpkinseed or sun perch
Lepomis gibbosus
but thanks for the links
