If the diagram is correct sphenozona doesn't have the black dorsal fin ray.

Yes, I have read that, mine were actually sold as geayi, but from the beginning I always assumed they were not.

Hmm, and neither does geayi. So, a toss up between owroewefi or oelemariensis!!

To my eyes when young, species are very hard to tell apart.
I only can tell when they are mature, @c4 to 5 inches,
like the one below.

I don't know for the US but mostly all Guianacara that came via commercial trade to Europe in the last years were dacrya.


G. owroewefi should also show a wider black bar on the body.

That make sense as dacrya comes from Brazil, as well as Guayana. I believe that there are far more exports of fish from Brazil than from the Guianas. However in the case of mine I have been told that the parents were wild caught in French Guiana, that is the main reason I have been thinking they are owroewefi, though I agree that the bar is not all that wide. I don't mind which species they are, but it would be nice to know!
