Because you have a very light (white) substrate, in order to get a proper photo of the lower jaw, you will need to catch it as the JD is hovering over the dark wood, otherwise the reflection of the while substrate washes out the lower jaw area, making gender ID difficult
And try to catch as much of the lower area as possible, not from above.
