I have this midas looking fish, I'm not sure if he is a true midas or one of the other similar spieces. Can anyone help me out.

A Midas for sure. I can tell because the lips arent as fat as RDs are, the colors are marbles and it has a hump, RDs don't posses a hump

^ After a few generations, all rds loose the fat lips. Red devils do in fact have nuchal humps. I don't see how the "marble" colors determine whether its a midas or a rd. Back to the op, if your unaware of the fishes origin it is most likely a hybrid.

The fish was a trade-in at one of my LFS. The person that traded it in said they got it from RAPPs and its not a cintrinellus. If that is true it is something like a amarillo, chancho, sagitte, xiloaensis, or something else like that. Does anyone know anything about fish like that.

Without doing genetic testing you're never going to be sure what it is, this complex is all so similar visually.

i agree with modest man

Its not a chancho for sure. Could be a saggitae. Looks like a midas though.

well we could probably rule out chancho or amarillo. but ultimately modest_man is right. no way to know for sure without dna testing.

nice looking fish regardless of what it is :)

How big is the fish?

If the guy is being honest (which I wouldn't trust anyway) and he did indeed buy it from Rapps and he for sure knows it's not a midas then it pretty much has to be a xilaoensis or sagitte in my mind. If it is full grown and only 7-9" it is most likely a xilaoensis. I'm not sure how long rapps has been selling xiloansis so that could also help mark them out. Also if you go to Rapps vendor page he has a RD pictured that looks similiar but also states that he just now has his first spawn from his almost solid white labiatus so that could pretty much mark off labiatus as well.

That's a lot of if's and but's though. This is simply a guess and would depend completely on the guy being true to his word.
