comparing to the dorsal diagrams on sutkus's 1963 paper i'd say i've still got a good feeling about it being a possible hybrid. it's got really strong tell tale longnose colours too...ps, in real life it looks absolutely nothing like any florida ive ever seen...even big ones in the zoo.
given the dorsal shot i feel pretty strongly about my initial comments about potential FL x LNG hybrid...the head looks intermediate between the two...as does the pattern. any idea how old the fish is, just out of curiosity.
we're pretty sure this happens in the wild too...there are a lot of weird looking longnoses around peninsular Florida and this is likely what we're seeing. of course, you need to send me a fin clipping so we can confirm it via genetic testing --

not sure, i can check, but i doubt i'll be able to give u an accurate response. definately a few years, by the sound of things. as i responded via email...come get yr own damn clippings....sushi'll be on me...
ps, bring a damn t gar for me! haha
in all honesty, when i have to move the gar i'll try & get a clipping, unless you really need it, in which case i'll give it a go.
